Music Pro Elite – the best thing I have heard
I am a professional musician playing in a symphony orchestra. These things are better than the older models, and work the extra money. Clear sound, easier to use that the previous model.

    Music Pro Elite
I am a professional musician, and have used for many years Westone custom ear molds & Etymotic attenuators for hearing protection. I recently got the Music Por Elite and they are GREAT! Very comfortable and the response time to clamp loud peaks (from the drummer) is very fast. I have advised many of my fellow pro players to investigate these as they are superior to the passive system I have used for many years.
    Thanks for a great product!

    I Can Hear Myself
Very impressed with the thought that went in to the design of the charging case. I charged the case 5 weeks ago. It’s still at 80% and charging the ear buds to 100%. Keep the case charged and the buds stored in it and you’ll always be ready to go. I’ve used my Pro Elites at three rehearsals and one live show. I’m a bass player and regular, passive plugs take away the lows making it hard to hear myself and the kick drum. Not the case with the Pro Elites. I can hear the whole band (8 piece) at a consistent level when the stage volume is good. When your lead guitar player turns up too loud, however, it’s still all your going to hear. That’s just how sound works. These make my experience as a gigging musician much more comfortable… and I’ll be able to hear my grandchildren when that day comes.

Best ear plugs ever for musicians
They work great. I have tinnitus and these plugs have made it so I can play drums again in a band and not make the tinnitus worse. I highly recommend them and have suggested to my band mates to use them as well. I read some other reviews here and can also agree that I can hear the whole band when playing and that the levels are consistent. I also found that they clamp out loud peaks very fast. Very very satisfied.

Fantastic devices, I can hear what is happening in my workspace much more accurately.

Fantastic for a concert-goer with tinnitus
I have pretty severe tinnitus that is aggravated by loud sounds and high treble. I bought passive earplugs from another company that were OK protecting my ear from external sounds by caused my own voice to aggravate the tinnitus when the plugs were in. An ENT specialist recommended Etymotic and I bought the Music Pro Elite because of the rechargeable batteries and the item was in stock; they are amazingly effective for attenuating variable sound volumes and pitches in real time. I could easily hear my friends when they talked to me during the concert and my own voice didn’t bother my tinnitus at all. After the show, there was no residual ringing or muffling of my hearing (a sign that the Elites may not have been 100%). I have started recommending this to my friends who are getting more concerned with protecting their hearing.

    Love These!
I didn’t know what to expect till I read a review and purchased, I have a bad case of Tinnitus and partial hearing loss from construction, motorcycles, and playing the drums most of my adult life.
I put these in and I can still hear my band mates talking perfectly and all of the instruments are crystal clear, when I’m done playing my ears aren’t ringing any worse than when I started.
It’s a small investment to keep playing music….

    These changed my life!
I have auditory trauma in one ear and experience a lot of pain in loud environments. I use musicians plugs to help with this but I can’t sing with them. If I only use one in the damaged ear, I can’t hear myself well enough over the sound of the band. If I use both I can hear myself too well and everything else not enough. I was desperate for a solution. I ordered the music pro elite’s a couple weeks before a concert with 108 singers. I tested them out at rehearsal and was amazed and the fast response when the decibel level went too high. They worked perfectly for the performance. I can’t stop telling people that they’re magic!

    5 plus stars

My new etymotic silencers (elite pro)
Compared to my old Etymotics these allow me to hear the music around me much more distinctly.
Sometimes I wonder if the sound level gets too high but my tinnitus has not gotten worse at all.
Somtimes I find it a bit difficult to turn them on but I guess I’ll get used to processing them. Might be a personal thing. Other guys who tried mine (using own Elite pro)didn’t encounter any problems.
    I can abolutely recommend them.
My settings are brassband and big bands.
As silencers 5 stars; handling 4 1/2. Overall experience in band 5 stars.

    Not for my tinnitus
Well, it is nicely built, good bundle, but didn’t suit my tinnitus. I have mild tinnitus and my hearing is sensinive to high pitched sounds like running water and plates clinking.
I just tried these earplugs with 3 flange eartips 20 minutes ago for about 10 seconds and it was enough to increase my tinnitus and make me feel kind of dizzy. Maybe my ears are too sensitive, but these earphones seem to increase highs even in low mode.

Audio Engineer – These are great
I’m an audio engineer at a music school. I’m in many enviroments where I can’t control the volume. These are great for using the “lift” feature, acting like hearing aids, but also it triggers over to “protect” mode, which is a bit more difficult to mix with, no problem I just click them into “regular” mode and it’s a bit more flat. For very loud shows, where they are almost always “limited”, I’ve actually just turned them off rather than have the electronics going. They seat well with the largest, I’m still playing with the foams but one of them seems to be blocked… likely user error. Anyhow, I recommend these, and have been recommended these, by and to, many musicians and engineers.
I figure if it’s so loud it triggers the limiter, it’s better I hear it quieter than have a linear dymanic experience that includes pain and hearing loss on the upper end. Rechargable case is awesome. Thanks for a great product!

    Great for non-musicians too
I’m not a musician any more. Now I interview people, sometimes they are very sad and very soft. When my allergies are riled up, even with multiple allergy medications, my hearing is impacted. These ear buds make help me hear the speech more clearly. The effect is subtle but very meaningful. I -love- these!

Great sound and dampening of very loud sounds
I play in an orchestra and am in front of the trombones in one orchestra and in front of the percussion in another orchestra. These hearing protectors reproduce sound very well, so you can hear yourself play and hear others normally, while dampening the really loud sounds that might damage your hearing. The only difference from normal for me is that the sound of crinkling papers and turning pages is louder than normal, but you quickly get used to that. I would recommend these to any musician who needs to protect their hearing, while being able to hear sounds of normal volume. I used the protectors for 3 hours and they were at 70% charge after the session and they were quickly recharged by the case. The case still showed 100% charge remaining after charging the hearing protectors from 70%-100%.

    Great Hearing Protection
I am a life long musician and Instrumental Music Teacher. I am constantly exposed to volume levels that are potentially unsafe. While there are no perfect solutions for hearing protection, these Music Pro Elites are the best I have used. I use IEM’s on stage (Etymotic) and have used different passive hearing protectors with different filters. These are by far my favorite. I use them with the 6db boost in rehearsals so that I can hear conversation without having to take them out. In a live music setting, I use the low mode and they work great. I highly recommend these Music Pro Elites.

Gave band back to my daughter
My daughter suffers from a pain condition called geniculate neuralgia. She has constant ear pain that is made worse by triggers like loud sounds. She plays in her high school band and we thought she was going to have to give it up but this product has been the one thing that allows her to hear what she needs to and dampens the extreme levels so she doesn’t get triggered. We are so excited to find a product that does this! I hope my review possibly sends others that deal with facial pain conditions to this site for help with sound triggers. She finds these easy to use, comfortable, and discrete.

    Room for improvement
Voices sound like they’re speaking through a kazoo or a vibrating piece of film. General electronic distortion is common. Sometimes there is a strange oscillation between left and right ears, around 5 cycles per second or so, especially with sounds that are loud, but not too loud. Background hiss is noticeable when sound is not loud (this is the case with all active noice cancelling earplugs or headphones, so no surprise here).

These are my top pick for musicals, which have a very wide dynamic range.

For concerts, I’m on the fence between the Bose QuietComfort 20 and the Music Pro Elite. The Bose provide smooth and even reduction of volume with no distortion, but they cancel out almost all of the low frequencies. The Music Pro Elite don’t cancel out much of the low frequencies at all, but make music sound distorted.

I think for concerts, instead of only trying to reduce loud sounds, it would be better to have consistent sound reduction, similar to the way the Bose QuietComfort headphones work, except a constant reduction across all frequencies instead of a bias towards cancelling out all low frequencies.

Overall, there is a lot of room for improvement.

  19. Richard (verified owner)

These are very good and I wear them all the time in rehearsals and for many gigs.

However, they are not quite faithful for me. Compared to the open ear, bass sounds are attenuated a little too much, and very high frequencies are slightly amplified. I’m not sure whether this a limitation of the hardware, or if my ear canals are slightly differently shaped from “normal”.

Whatever the cause, if there was some sort of EQ adjustment to compensate for this, they would be perfect.

    Great protection, but low fidelity
Full time professional musician here, been suffering from a raging case of tinnitus for years. I had stepped away from playing full time because of it. Found these devices a few months back, and I believe they are the best option I’ve tried yet, or that currently exist one the market. I love the pass thru at low volumes to hear MDs/Conductors in rehearsal, and the ability to squash sudden loud sounds. The main – and only complaint is the absence of bass response. I’m a bassist, and I find it pretty frustrating that I can’t hear myself accurately. If this processing were available with the fidelity of, say, Ultimate Ears UE-11 Pro monitors, THEN they would get 5 stars! Can you make that happen?
