"I've been wearing Etymotic's Musicians Earplugs for about 20 years now and have loved every second of it. Whether it was on stage with a band, or during my days as a bouncer in some of the biggest and loudest bars and nightclubs in the country, I always had my Musicians Earplugs with me. Today, I keep an ER-20XS in my pocket at all times, and extra sets of ETY-Plugs in my car for friends. Whenever the topic of ears comes up, I always brag about Etymotic. The incredible staff keeps outdoing themselves with more lines of great high-quality products-the mark of a company that truly listens to its customer base and knows what we need in the real world. My hearing is my life, so seeing Etymotic's constant strive for perfection and excellence lets me know my ears are in the right hands."
Songwriter, Singer, Musician - Bass Guitar, Guitar
My name is Bruce Hughes.
I grew up in austin texas and always knew i'd be a musician. My family were all musical, my friends were all into playing music, too, and it just naturally happened. I've been singing since I was a wee lad. I started playing guitar around 8 or 9, watching my dad play and sneakin his guitar out of the closet to practice. Piano at 10. Competition was fierce, so I picked up the bass at 11 and fell in love with the low end. Started playin in bands at the tender age of 12. Makin money and gettin attention at 13, I was hooked. Played in a cover band for a year and a half, playin all the hits of the 70's (that's when it was), there was a lot of good stuff comin out every week, and the bass lines were killer. Took a break for a coupla years to go to high school. Enrolled at ut and almost immediately started playing music again, first in a cosmic country band, then in new wave no wave punk rock & art rock combinations. Austin has always been a very vibrant and serious music town, people wanted to play music so bad it didn't matter how great they were or if they sucked, everybody got heard. I played with as many people as I could. Started working in studios in town as a session player. Started traveling in 86, true believers took me on tour, pick up gigs in texas and louisiana with brint anderson, backed up Dr. John for a couple of weeks in 87. Poi Dog Pondering came through town and I started playing with the band in 88. Toured heavily for 4 years. Put out a coupla records (columbia/sony) nationally and internationally, then started workin with teratoma founder Howard Harrison and the guys that became the Ugly Americans. 93 went on the kerosene hat tour with cracker for 7+ months, then came home to work with the Uglies exclusively. Toured heavily for the next coupla years, put out 2 independent records, then 2 records on capricorn, joined the Scabs and Bob Schneider's Lonelyland in the late 90's. Don't remember exactly. Put out another half dozen records with them, toured my ass off, put a new teratoma record out and started playing with the Resentments in 1999. 5 records with them over the next decade, along with tours in Europe and Japan at the same time as putting 3 records out with Bob and touring the US. Started my own band, Bhana, put out 2 solo records, then went on a 15 month tour of the world with Jason Mraz, supporting "we sing, we dance, we steal things".
Returned home and started producing, just finished producing english pop artist jonathan whiskerd.
Average 250 dates a year from 1998-2013.
Have performed on more than 60 albums. Most of them released.
It's all kind of a blur. I play a lot of shows still, 5 to 7 a week.
"So even and true and comfortable, I forgot I had them in."

"ER•4's - as reference monitors, in the studio, or live performance make me feel completely connected to the sounds! They sound 'AS THINGS SOUND' - accurate, transparent and have plenty of presence and punch...plus STELLAR isolation! Also, the 'ears behind the ears' at Etymotic are as GENUINE as the sound they produce!!"

"I love how comfortable my custom molds are! I use them with the ER4, and with my musicians ER 9, 15, and 25 filters. They sound so clear and feel so comfortable that sometimes it's hard to believe they are even in my ears. When you remove them, it's shocking to realize how much noise has been filtered out! Clarity and comfort are a 10/10 with these."

~ Patrick Stump, "Fall Out Boy" at The Drum School with Earl Talbot
"ETY•Plugs are a staple here at The Drum School. Now all of my students enjoy protecting their hearing, comfortably without objection! I use ETY Plugs while practicing, and at every show I attend, weather performing, or as an audience member. With Etymotic products I'm always safe, especially during set up and sound check when feedback and loud noises used to gang up on my precious ears. I've always got a pair handy, and never leave home without em'.
I use ER•4's exclusively for my amazing 'in-ear monitor situation'. On stage I've got no more need for a loud wedge that competes with my own drum volume levels. In studio I've got a true reference, and record and mix at low volume levels- perfect! I love being able to work for hours, and when I 'un-plug' my Etymotic products, the world sounds the same as it did before I started. I can't believe I used to rock without protection, but now I'm at ease and can enjoy listening for the rest of my life.

Multi Percussionist, Musician, Educator
Blue Sound / Orquesta La Cura
Ernie Becquer started his musical journey when he was a young boy. His grandmother, Ubalda, exposed him to her favorite Cuban music and planted the seeds of Son, Bolero, Cha Cha, Mambo and many other types of Cuban music in his heart. He grew up listening to that music and it influenced him tremendously. Ernie also was inspired by his other grandmother, Anita, who was a poet, painter and artist who painted 100's of paintings, recorded several records, many poems and a children's book called "Nachito". She encouraged Ernie to pursue his passion for music. Ernie is constantly searching for knowledge and history to expand his musicianship. His grandmothers can be credited for his passion for music and his constant journey of musical growth.
Ernie has lived in San Diego for more than 15 years, and his talent continues to be sought after by the top Salsa and Latin bands throughout California. His steady meter and passion for the conga is evident in his performances. He has performed all over the United States, Mexico, Central America and recently became the first Toca Percussion Artist to perform Salsa in Lagos, Nigeria (Africa). "It's a blessing to be able to perform and express yourself through music," says Ernie.
Ernie has performed and shared the stage for some of the biggest names in the business, including the late Ray Barretto, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and Cachao, as well as Oscar D' Leon, Irakere, Cubanismo, Luisito Carrion, Son by 4 and Tito Nieves. "When you perform and share the stage with your musical heroes you can't help but be honored," says Ernie. "I am very thankful."
"As an Artist with many years in the industry, I neglected to protect my hearing, I took it for granted. I could of prevented some of my hearing loss. So with your help, I'm committed to champion your products and to help in any way. I want people to realize how crucial it is to protect your hearing, I want to help educate and prevent people from losing such a precious gift that is your hearing."
Philadelphia native and musician Jeff Campbell has toured all over the country, sharing the stage with John Mayer, members of Counting Crows, and Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead. Of the EP, Michael Canter of Jivewired.com said, "...not since Elliot Smith have I heard similar music sound this accomplished. His wistful and soulful vocals make this album immediate and relevant." Chuck Dauphin of Music News Nashville said Jeff's 2012 release 'Stop and Go' is "...an album that will leave you wanting more."
"My ER4 MicroPro Earphones offer the perfect monitor sound onstage. They block out what's not supposed to get in and keep what's supposed to be crystal clear in my ears.
My EtyPlugs take the guesswork out of when to use and not use earplugs as a spectator at live music events, loud restaurants and clubs. If they're always in, they do the work!"
Jeff Glidden has been a professional drummer since the age of 12 and has played virtually every genre of music, from eclectic jazz to new country. He's had the pleasure of opening for/sharing the stage with/jamming with/recording with some amazing talent: Michael McDonald (Steely Dan, Doobie Bros.), Willie Nelson & Family, Donna Jean Godchaux, Vince Welnick, and Tom Constanten of The Grateful Dead, JGB, members of The Allman Bros. "I got turned on to Etymotic by Dan Wojciechowski, Peter Frampton's drummer. The ER4s are just incredible. They were the missing link...the piece of equipment that I really needed to hear music the way that I wanted to hear it. Whether it be live or in the studio, they are indispensible now. I won't leave home without them."

Hey guys! My name is Jeremy Davis and I am a 21 year old drummer from Lexington, South Carolina. I have been playing drums for about 14 years and I utilize every moment I can as a learning opportunity and a practice experience. I play drums in many settings. Some of those settings being: my youtube drumming, performing at churches, and playing in a touring band.
Throughout all of these situations I put all my effort into every performance and leave all of my energy on stage. Whether I am recording Youtube videos: playing to a camera, playing to 5 people at a concert or 5,000 people, every setting gets the same energy level out of me.

As a result, I'm able to sing without strain and with consistent pitch, all the while protecting my hearing. I love the high-definition and response of the ER•4's. "I like the Etymotics because they sound great and they are very light, sturdy and comfortable. Great for critical listening while traveling, and I use them as part of my laptop studio.
Very simple in design and low-profile. Since there are many products available that sound good, details like cabling and fit are important to me. I also like the fact that they can be used very effectively as generic fitting ear buds or custom fitted with molds."

"This is extremely important for anyone, especially today when there are always beeps, alarms, sirens and other alerts not just from the streets and clubs and other venues, but computers, mobile phones and such which increasingly become louder as we move forward in time. Being an avid music fan as well as being composer and producer means that I need to protect my ears effectively so I can ensure and reinforce the longevity of healthy hearing for work and pleasure. Even when I am in a loud restaurant or bar, I may use protection (hey and I am not talking sexually here, kids) I used my Etymotic plugs tonight when it was loud as they attenuate the volume and not muffle the high frequencies as typical foam plugs do. Hearing all frequencies accurately is important for anyone who wants to effectively communicate whether it be listening to music or hearing someone speak. If you do not protect your sensitive ears, you will not have them in the future. USE PROTECTION!!! You will be glad you did! You will also not have to purchase anything for a headache later too!"
Steve Elliott Smith is best known as the drummer for Journey and one of the top drummers of all time. The Berklee grad emerged as a jazz drummer touring with Jean-Luc Ponty, but it was his time with rock band Journey that put him on the map. He's since played in sessions and on stage with a who's-who of jazz, rock, pop, world and other artists. Today, he leads his own jazz band, Vital Information. Steve uses Etymotic ER•4s as his in-ear monitors.

"The Etymotic ER•4s give me clear sound with a wide range of frequencies. They are comfortable to wear and work extremely well in the studio and live. - Steve Smith"
I'm a UK musician, composer, producer and very occasional DJ based in Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire.
I co-founded Fila Brazillia with David McSherry in 1990 with whom I released 10 lp's and produced over 70 remixes for artists such as Radiohead, Busta Rhymes, Black Uhuru, Simple Minds, A Certain Ratio and Moloko.
Prior to this I was signed to Big Life records as one half of Ashley and Jackson. A group that enjoyed moderate success in the late eighties and had a minor hit with 'Solid Gold', which went to number 3 in Austria. On a trivial note, the A&R man that signed us is head of Universal now.
My other writing and production collaborations include Heights of Abraham with ex Chakk members Sim Lister and Jake Harries; J*S*T*A*R*S with Lister and The Cutler with Dave 'Porky' Brennand . I also released two solo lp's and as The Solid Doctor and a selection of remixes under my own name. I've written and recorded with Cabaret Voltaire's Steven Mallinder under the guise of 'Hey Rube'. Our debut lp 'Can You Hear Me Mutha?' was released in October '12.https://soundcloud.com/heyrube.Adam Regan from Different Drummer and Leftfoot in Birmingham is also a regular collaborator. The project is entitled 'Chieftain' and aimed fairly and squarely at the dance floor. Digi ep released last year. CD to be released in '13.
I co-produced Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli's debut solo l.p. 'The Twilight Singers' in 2000 and also co-wrote and produced Three White Roses and a Budd ep with Bill Nelson and avant garde American composer Harold Budd. I worked extensively with old chum Darren Emerson on his solo lp, in an engineering and writing capacity. Looking ahead,I'm off to France to work with ex Cocteau Twin Robin Guthrie in a couple of weeks.
My work has been used on a wide array of international film and television programs. From Sex and the City and CSI Miami to Blue Peter and Homefront in the Garden, my PRS statements are testament to the wide appeal of my back catalogue.
'Loose Nuke Threat' by J*S*T*A*R*S was used on two extensive UK advertising campaigns for John Lewis in 2005/2006 and Fiat in 2011. Nokia used Motown Coppers by Fila Brazillia on an international campaign in 2010. Two international feature films by Stacy Peralta - Riding Giants & Dogtown and Z Boys also feature Fila tuneage.
I've DJ'd on every continent but Africa and performed live and extensively toured both Europe and the States with Fila Brazillia.
As you can gather, I have a wide range of production, writing and engineering skills.
I'm currently represented by Roberto Neri at Eagle I publishing.
"The ER 4 is far and away the best ear buds Ive ever used. They're the most comfortable Ive worn and deliver a wonderful crisp and balanced frequency range. The ETY ear defenders were a revelation. Zero muffle but powerful noise reduction. Outstanding."
Thick as Thieves
LA-based Thick as Thieves sound incorporates intention-filled rap verses and uplifting catchy choruses with dual vocals, all brought to life by sinuous stalking rhythms. They've toured nationwide in college markets, opening for national favorites such as Imagine Dragons, Nas, Bassnectar, Empire of the Sun, Sean Kingston, Matt & Kim, Young the Giant, The New Boyz, among others. At home, they've played at many of the world famous Sunset Strip venues such as the House of Blues, Troubadour, Whiskey a Go Go, and The Roxy. Thick as Thieves continues to pursue their path as innovators in support of their recently released EP "These Days." "We're using Etymotic's ER-4s as our in-ear monitors and we're happy to have them! Any band playing electric music deals with a ton of stage noise. There are lots of distinct parts to our music and with our band's multiple singers and guitars it's hard to focus and hear ourselves. Getting ER-4s and rid of the wedge monitors is an amazing musical opportunity."

"So crisp, accurate and comfortable - the ER4's have the sonic definition to let me focus on making and performing music while protecting my ears. I use them nearly every day. Thank you, Etymotic!"
Audio Engineer: Tyler Soifer, Steve Smith and Side 3 Studios
Whether at a music venue or in the studio, Tyler strives to provide the best possible audio to a wide range of talented musicians, producers, and artists. Currently, Tyler could be found at front-of-house, mixing concerts for artists like Steve Smith & Vital Information, Hiromi and Nelson Rangell, as well as at home in Denver, recording and mixing a wide variety of pop, rap, rock, and jazz.
"The wonderful thing about the ER-4's is they shine in many critical applications, because of their superior quality. I trust them over any other earphones because of the flat response and their ability to represent the audio so accurately at all levels."
Guitarist and Composer
Guitarist & composer Vinny Valentino continues to redefine musical genres, to the acclaim of audiences worldwide. In 1988, he released his first solo recording entitled, Vinny Valentino, and now has 12 recordings to his credit. His international debut recording, The Distance Between Two Lines, shot straight up the charts to #2 and stayed on the national charts for more than 14 weeks-an unprecedented achievement for a first international release. Paul Anthony of Jazz Unlimited called it "one of the top five albums of 1993."
His compositions have been recorded by Vital Information, John Benitez, George Benson, Sunny Sumter and Steve Haas and are featured in the "All Jazz Real Book." The National Endowment for the Arts and the Virginia Commission for the Arts have recognized Vinny's talents as composer, arranger, and recording artist with a grant for a series of works entitled "New Music for Three Guitars."
Vinny and his trio "On 3" were selected by the Kennedy Center and the Department of State to represent the United States in the U.S. Jazz Ambassadors Program. Since 2006, Vinny has been the guitarist for the long-standing fusion group, Vital Information, which boasts legendary drummer Steve Smith as its founder and leader.
"I never thought it was possible to accurately mix and master while on tour until I bought my first pair of ER4's. They are the equitable combination of accuracy and isolation even at 30,000 feet. For me, Etymotic is all about quality mixed with practicality. They've done the 'Research' and I get to enjoy the music."
