Where to Buy
Musicians Earplugs are a custom product, made individually for each user. They can be purchased only from licensed hearing professionals (audiologists and hearing instrument specialists). To find a licensed hearing professional in your area:
Look in your local yellow pages directory under "audiology" or "hearing." Best results are usually obtained from hearing professionals who have experience in working with musicians and Musicians Earplugs.
Contact one of the authorized
Earmold Labs
who make the custom earmolds for Musicians Earplugs. The authorized earmold labs can refer you to a licensed hearing professional in your area from whom you can purchase Musicians Earplugs.
The average cost for a pair of Musicians Earplugs ranges from $150 to $200. Contact your local hearing professional for cost information in your area.
The Process
Etymotic Research manufactures the filter buttons for Musicians Earplugs, but we do not make the earmolds. Questions regarding the earmolds should be referred to your local hearing professional.
Your hearing professional will take deep impressions of your ears and order the Musicians Earplugs from one of the authorized earmold laboratories. The earmold lab will make the custom earmolds and provide one set of filter buttons (your choice of ER-9, ER-15 or ER-25).
Your hearing professional will assist you in making sure the Musicians Earplugs fit properly. It is sometimes necessary in the fitting process to modify or remake one or both earmolds to ensure comfort and optimum performance.
The authorized earmold laboratories do not keep your ear impressions indefinitely. If at some point you need to replace an earmold, you will most likely need to return to your hearing professional to have new ear impressions made.
The filter buttons are interchangeable. Many users find it helpful to have two sets of filters (e.g., ER-15 and ER-25, or ER-9 and ER-15) to vary the amount of attenuation depending on the sound exposure levels.
Additional filter buttons can be purchased from your hearing professional or from Etymotic Research.
