Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
Which Etymotic models work with the CUSTOM•FIT program?
A.
Custom molds can be made for all Etymotic earphones and headsets.
Q.
Are CUSTOM•FIT molds interchangeable among Etymotic models?
A.
Certain CUSTOM•FIT molds are interchangeable with each other:
  • Custom molds for mc2, mc3 and mc5 are the same.
  • Custom molds for hf2, hf3, hf5 and ER•4 are the same.
  • Custom molds for the etyBLU and etyBLU2 headsets are the same.
Q.
Do I pay the network audiologist?
A.
Yes. When you schedule an appointment for ear impressions, ask what the charges will be.
Q.
I have seen the audiologist for impressions. How do I track where my molds are?
A.
Etymotic sponsors the CUSTOM•FIT program, but this process is managed by network professionals
who take impressions. Please contact them for assistance in tracking your molds.
Q.
Why should I use a network audiologist?
A.
Audiologists in the CUSTOM•FIT network were carefully selected because they are professionals
who take excellent impressions and provide quality products and services.
Q.
Can I purchase additional sets of molds for other Etymotic products, upgrade to a
different model or purchase Musicians Earplugs without going to an audiologist again?
A.
Yes. All labs keep ear impressions for 30 days. Some labs make electronic 3D scans and keep
them on file for 4 years at no charge. Other labs charge a nominal fee (usually about $5 per ear)
upon request and keep the scans for up to 10 years. Talk to your network audiologist or contact
the CUSTOM•FIT program administrator at www.etymotic.com/customfit
Q.
Will CUSTOM•FIT molds improve sound quality and noise isolation?
A.
CUSTOM•FIT molds enhance your listening experience. They provide a comfortable,
secure fit and do not alter the exceptional sound quality of the earphones. You can
depend on the same noise isolation each time.
Q.
How many CUSTOM•FIT molds are available for the etyBLU2 headset?
A.
The program offers two custom molds for all earphones and headsets. For the etyBLU2,
you can choose one mold for each ear or two molds for either right or left ear. The purchase
of only one mold is not an option.
Q.
What is the ear impression process like? Does it hurt? Is it messy?"
A.
The impression process is simple, safe and often described as fun. It is not messy at all.
Check out the CUSTOM•FIT video to view the impression process.
Q.
What are my CUSTOM•FIT molds made of?
A.
Ultra-soft silicone for superior fit and comfort
Q.
Are the molds medically safe?
A.
Yes
Q.
How do I attach custom molds to my earphones?
A.
Instructions will be included with your CUSTOM•FIT molds, and it's very easy:
  • Remove the eartips you are currently using and attach your new molds.
  • RIGHT and LEFT molds are clearly marked. Put the right mold on the right
earphone and the left mold on the left earphone.
  • If assistance is required, contact a customer service associate at:
    customer-service@etymotic.com. They are very helpful.
Q.
What happens if my CUSTOM•FIT molds do not fit or I need help with my molds?

It is rare that custom molds fail to fit properly. If this happens, your audiologist will work
with you to make molds that fit perfectly.
